Venice: Top Things To Do

Surprisingly, Venice lies on 118 small islands. Each one, more beautiful than the next!

They're connected by many bridges and separated by an elaborate network of canals.

In fact, there are no cars or trucks in Venice, everyone gets around by boat or on foot!

The population is just 250,000. But, the UNESCO World Heritage Site is swamped with more than 60,000 tourists a day, that's more than 30 million visitors a year.

It's one of the most popular cities in the world.

1. St. Mark's Basilica

Built in 1092, the church is almost 930 years old. It's the most famous building in Venice. Tip: If you take a tour upstairs you'll see the detailed beautiful gold mosaics up close.

2. St. Mark's Square

This is the most famous piazza in Venice, located on the Grand Canal. Dotted with ritzy restaurants where

3. Explore the Canal Grande

Explore on foot.. or on a gondola! There are more than 400 registers gondolas in Venice. Believe it or not, 200 years ago, there were 10,000 gondolas passing through the canals.

4. How much does a Gondola ride cost?

The City of Venice sets the official rates: €80 for 40 minutes during the day, and at night from 7pm the rate jumps to €100, for up to 6 people.

5. Public Transport

The Vaporetto costs 7 euro and allows for 60 minutes of unlimited travel from the moment your pass is stamped.

6. Best snap? A photo from Rialto Bridge. Ponte di Rialto.

It's the most famous bridge in Venice. In my opinion, it also captures one of the best views looking over the Grand Canal, particularly at sunset.

7. Best gelato?

Venchi. It’s amazing!! Try the Condensed Milk flavour! 🤤🤤🤤

8. When to visit?

Summer is between June and August. The average temperature is 23 degrees / 73 Fahrenheit. In winter, it gets cold! The average temperature in January is 3 degrees / 37 Fahrenheit. We travelled in April. Check out the video below to get an idea of the vibe! While it was quieter - be aware, it is chilly at night. So, rug up if you're visiting during the shoulder seasons.
